Tips
- Stay near Central Station. You can easily walk to most tourist places from here. It’s also very easy to take the train here from the airport.
- Copenhagen is a small city. Depending on what you would like to see, you can do it all in 1-2 days.
- This is the most expensive city I’ve travelled to. I would suggest getting an airbnb and try cooking on some days to save $$.
- Definitely visit Freetown Christiania and prepared to be shocked by the extreme culture change within a little area (spoiler alert: about 50 weed vendors on the streets all sold for the same price btw).
- Don’t be afraid to get out of the city. The countryside is absolutely breathtaking!
- They charge for water, even tap water.
Day 1
Morning: Arrive & travel to hostel
My first day was the ultimate tourist day where I walked all over town and even went out of my way to see the little mermaid statue, which was apparently named #1 worst tourist attraction. I took a free walking tour which helped me understand a lot more of Copenhagen’s culture. During the tour, I met a girl and we had a pretty $$$ but delicious dinner together at a restaurant with a former NOMA chef.
Afternoon: Torvehallerne for lunch, Rosenborg Castle & Botanical Garden, Nyhavn, Amalienborg, Little Mermaid, Stroget, Christianshavn, Freetown Christiania
Evening: Dinner at Barr
Day 2
The second day I was in Copenhagen was amazing because I got to meet up with my friends I studied abroad with back in 2009. Kristine is from Denmark and Paula came to hang out from Finland! We took the touristy book tour and decided that cake was a proper lunch. We then traveled to where Kristine lived in Odense and went to a hipster-y street food venue.
Morning: Breakfast, Boat tour at Nyhavn
Afternoon: Round Tower, Cake at La Glace
Evening: Travel to Odense, Dinner at Storms Pakhus, Walk around HC Anderson Memorial
Day 3
There was much debate on what we were going to do this day, but settled on going to Legoland because well, we’re in Denmark, home of the legos! While it’s for kids, we still had a blast and luckily, lines weren’t took long either so we were able to go on most rides and attractions in a little over half a day. The sculptures made out of legos are amazing though. That’s something you must check out!
All Day: Legoland in Billund
Day 4
Today was my last full day in Denmark (and in Europe) and it was pretty chill and relaxing, especially going to the countryside. We walked around outside by the water and also went on a hike. I also got to visit Kristine’s parent’s place int he countryside and had a relaxing afternoon drinking tea and eating cake. For our last dinner, we ended up BBQing on a gorgeous Spring night.
Morning: Breakfast at home
Afternoon: Walk around Nyborg, Ice Cream, Cake at Kristine’s parents, hiking
Evening: Grocery store and grill skewers for dinner, walk around Odense Zoo
